M - IMPORTANT - Safe computing for children

You can't be too careful these days; what with all the dangers on the internet and such.

D - An Early Halloween

I bought Katie a Halloween costume on Thursday even though it was not what she has been telling me she's going to be. Though she feels strongly about wearing an old sheet and being a ghost, I asked her on Friday morning if she would just try on the costume I got for her. Well, apparently she likes it, because she didn't want to take it off for the rest of the day. We went all over town as Supergirl!

I didn't think it would be too difficult to sell her on this costume. After all, she's been trying to dress as Supergirl at home for some time now. Noah has had various Superman pj's over the years as well as an actual Halloween costume from last year. They occasionally like to dress in these and run through the house watching their capes fly. Because Katie hasn't had a costume of her own, Noah made her this one out of paper in April of 2007. This has always been one of my favorite pics.

Despite her excitement, apparently there are both good and bad things about being Supergirl when you go to the library.

#1 - It's fun to be Supergirl when 2-year old boys think you are the legitimate heroine and say to their moms in hushed, awed voices, "Mom, look! It's Supergirl!" and continue peeking at you while you return books.

#2 - It's BAD to be Supergirl when 3-year old little girls you don't know insist on sitting right next to you and follow you wherever you go during music time.

Later that afternoon I managed to get her out of her costume in order to go to ballet/gymnastics. She did, however, insist on wearing her new butterfly wings in ballet since, after all, they DO dance like butterflies.

Despite these cute new costumes, don't be surprised if a little ghost comes knocking at your door next month!

M - Run with the Bulls

It's become a bit of an annual tradition for me to participate in the Run with the Bulls 5k at the OKC Stockyards each August. I signed up for this year's event well before I knew I was going to have shoulder surgery and not be able to participate. But since I had already paid for my t-shirt, Noah and I headed down there a little after 0600hrs to pick up my shirt, have breakfast, and watch the start of the race. Being the competitive little booger he is, I thought it'd be something he would enjoy. Also, I'd love for races like this to be something we do together in the future.

Here's a pic of my view across the table during breakfast at Cattlemens. The steak and eggs were great and Noah mostly just enjoyed the fact that I let him have a soda pop for breakfast!

The start of the race is always the funnest as there is quite a bit of energy surrounding the event. Noah was BEGGING me to let him do the kids 1 Mile Fun Run. Of course, I had neither signed him up for it nor did he have shoes other than the normal flip-flops.

We stood around long enough to watch the fastest runners cross the line. As a result we were fortunate enough to meet this young lady who was born with Spina Bifida. We got to meet her parents and learn more about her racing chair which she'd just recently obtained. She was AMAZING and a real joy to meet.

M - Date night on Lake Hefner

This one took a bit of planning and coordinating but we had a GREAT time on our Lake Hefner date night back in mid-July. It was a complete surprise to Dana and by golly she hates surprises. Actually, she knew we had a date night but she had no clue what we were doing - which effectively added to the torture.

We had dinner at Red Rock Canyon Grill restaurant that sits on Lake Hefner. This restaurant also has a boat dock with some slips open to the public so we were able to basically 'boat' to dinner. We put the boat in on the west side of the lake and drove over to dinner on the east side.

I 'accidentally' stole a fork from the restaurant and have every intention of returning it. Someday. I REALLY needed it because I forgot to bring a spoon (and no spoons were given at dinner) for the ice cream to come later.

After dinner we had to cruise back to my truck to get my real camera (the first pics were taken with my phone) then we just cruised around the lake for a while anticipating both the sunset and the rising of the full moon.

MommaBoz put in a little time at the helm...

...While I relaxed and enjoyed the sights and sounds of the lake and especially the sunset.

Just after sunset we broke out the snacks - Dr. Pepper, ice cream, and Reese's Cups - as well as the music. Now, my ol' boat doesn't actually have any means to play music so I commandeered the cd player from Katie's room and grabbed a few cd's from the entertainment center. Of course, once I got ready to actually play the music I realized there were no cd's IN the cases! We just settled for the radio and enjoyed the mega-calories from the snacks.

It wasn't long before the moon was rising along with our guilt to get back to the house and relieve my mom who was babysitting for us (THANKS MOM!).

I'd say it's one of the best dates we've ever had. Sometimes the mood and timing hit just right, the kids aren't around, and we are reminded how great a gift marriage really is.

D - I Remembered my Login!!!

As you may or may not have noticed, I've been on somewhat of a blogging hiatus for some time now. It started over the summer when I had no time, and I really thought it would end once school started up again. Unfortunately, this has not happened. I guess I'm really slow, because I just figured out TODAY what is different. Katie no longer naps!!!

Because I made her take one today, I remembered that I used to lie down beside her while she was falling asleep. During that time I would think of things I wanted to say. Once she was asleep, I was in here typing away. So, apparently no naps = no thinking = no blogging.

So, I guess this is my feeble attempt at rejoining the blogging world. If you tuned in hoping to read something really enlightening, I'm sorry to disappoint. You just actually spent the last 2 minutes reading NOTHING and learning NOTHING except that I no longer think!

M - Katie gets a bass!

We are on the boat right now and I'm attempting to post directly from my phone. Katie's quite the fish 'reeler inner' after Noah and I hook 'em. We've got two in the first ten minutes so far.

Right now Katie is saying 'I like to eat real fish. I just want to eat."

And this is how Noah spent much of his time on the boat due to the really annoying sound Katie was making as she insisted on rubbing the oar along the edge of the boat.
